March 27, 2023

On Wednesday 29 March 2023 secondary school teachers who are members of PPTA (Post Primary Teachers Association) will be involved in a National Day Strike.

Secondary teachers have been in negotiations for a new Collective Agreement since May 2022 and the Government have yet to make an acceptable offer.

While information has been circulating in the media, all schools were advised of strike confirmation officially yesterday.

PPTA members want salaries increased to match inflation, more guidance staff to work with increasing numbers of rangatahi struggling with mental health and societal issues, greater recognition of kaiako Maori and effective controls on workload.  There is also a shortage of secondary school teachers.

Wainuiomata High School will be closed for instruction on Wednesday 29 March.  There will be no classes.  We apologise for the short notice – we were only given official notification on Sunday 26 March.

If you have any concerns or questions please contact the main office on04-9383224 or email office@wainuiomatahigh.school.nz.
