Hello, Kia Ora, Konnichi wa, Bonjour, Namaste, Ciao, Ola, Tja, Guten Tag, Ni Hao.
Welcome to the International Department at Wainuiomata High School.
Wainuiomata is a community of almost 17,000 people. We are surrounded by nature with many bush walks where you will see many of our native birds. There is also a beautiful river where you can swim or fish for trout.
HOMESTAY
International students enrolled at our schools must live with their parent, a school approved homestay or a designated caregiver (an adult chosen by the student’s parents). Homestay accommodation is the best way to develop English language while studying in New Zealand. All our homestay families live in Wainuiomata. Our homestay families are varied, some have children, some have grown children who have left home and some will be a mother or father on their own. Not all children of the home stay family attend Wainuiomata High School. Some children may be at the Primary or Intermediate School.
We provide homestays for short tour groups of 1 to 8 weeks and for long term students who study here for 1 term to 3 years. Some International students choose to stay in New Zealand to study at one of our many Universities once they have completed their secondary schooling.
Our homestay families are carefully selected and our expectations are:
PASTORAL CARE
Wainuiomata High School considers the pastoral care of our International students of the utmost importance. We look after the welfare of our International students both at home and school.
Our Homestay Coordinator has regular contact with the homestay family and the student.
