Sport

Wainuiomata High School recognises the role of sporting activities in providing students with valuable learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Wainuiomata High School has a strong tradition of achievement in many sporting codes and is proud of its many provincial and national representatives, such as All Blacks (Tana Umaga, Piri Weepu, Neemia Tialata) and Kiwi league player Paul Whatuira.

Sporting Codes at Wainuiomata High School

Wainuiomata High School ensures that there are opportunities for all students to participate in and experience sports and physical activities. Those available include: Athletics, Lawn Bowls, Cricket, Golf,   Volleyball, Tennis, Touch Rugby, Waka Ama, Badminton,
Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Hockey, Rugby, Rugby League, Football.

Other Individual sports like Mountain Biking, Karate and Judo are also available to interested students.

A registration fee is charged for most codes and this is required to be paid prior to the commencement of summer and winter sport fixtures. Costs such as uniform fees (where appropriate), turf fees, umpire fees and pool hire are additional.

Season or weekly draws are posted on the sports noticeboard and/or daily notices. It is up to the students to check their playing details each week and keep themselves informed.

Competitions for these activities are mainly organised through College Sport Wellington (www.collegesport.org.nz) or local sports associations who organise secondary school sporting events.
