About Us

Thank you for visiting the Wainuiomata High School website.

Wainuiomata High School is a state co-educational secondary school with a roll of 650 students.

At Wainuiomata High School we are committed to producing high-quality individual education. We are an achievement-oriented school. We set, expect and maintain high standards.

We have top-quality, friendly, effective teachers and staff who are committed to facilitating top-quality teaching and learning.

At Wainuiomata High School there is currently a wide range of subjects available. In 2019 we are moving to a junior student-centred curriculum, which will enable our students to choose the courses that are relevant and interesting to them. We are focussing on encouraging our students to learn how to learn and to develop the key competencies necessary to be successful in life after school.

For us, it is about providing a range of opportunities for all our students to gain experience, learn, develop, have fun and achieve. We are a multi-cultural and diverse school and everyone is respected and accepted for who they are.

We want to do the very best for all our learners.

Our Values

Our School

Our Facilities Include:

  • An auditorium with facilities for performance of musical and stage shows.
  • A purpose-built student services centre.
  • Five computer laboratories.
  • A technology centre.
  • Two full size gymnasiums and weight-training facility.
  • A library with study and computer facilities.
  • Six science laboratories.

The school has well-developed systems to encourage students to perform at their peak and emphasises traditional values of respect, honesty, courtesy, cooperation and concern for others. Support systems assist students with their problems and concerns. We believe a school must take a holistic view of the individual, and we understand that a student cannot be an effective learner if distracted by personal, family or health problems. Wainuiomata High School is therefore a "full service" school with extensive pastoral support available.

The sense of warmth and caring that we emphasise is also seen in the community which takes pride in being a close knit and progressive town. Wainuiomata is located only 15 minutes from the city centre of Lower Hutt and 30 minutes from central Wellington. It was one of the earliest European settlements in the Wellington region and today is part of Lower Hutt City.

Wainuiomata is the gateway to the Rimutaka Forest Park. The area is rich in mountains, rivers and native bush walks.
