Music - Year 10

Students must be:

• Committed to the study of a musical instrument
• Prepared to take part in all practical aspects of the course
• Prepared to study music theory

It is anticipated that students choosing to study music at this level will continue on to NCEA at Year 11. This course is designed to prepare the foundations for a higher level of work in the following year.


Students will:

• Learn to recognise the sounds of different instruments and voices
• Develop ideas through arranging and making up music of their own
• Performing on their own, or in a group, pieces of music they have learned or composed themselves
• Listen to music of different countries and historical styles
• Further develop skills in reading and writing music notation

This course leads on to:

 NCEA Level One Music in Year 11
