Materials Technology includes research into materials and their use and development to achieve a desired result. It involves knowledge of the qualities and suitability of different types of materials. Students must consider the effect that using these materials has on the environment and on society.

The key considerations when working in Technology are:

• Designing the product to meet specified needs
• Selecting materials
• Choosing the method for making the product
• How the product affects the environment
• An emphasis on design
• An introduction to CAD

Although materials are included in school fees, some students may wish to take on extra projects, in which case they will need to provide their own materials.
